Department of Sociology established in June 1967 while Sociology as a subject started in June 1965 for B.A. I Class and in June 1966 for B.A. II Class.

Department of Sociology is one of the pioneering departments of the college since its establishment. Gurunath Nadgonde and Ex-Principal Dr. Ambadas Madgulkar were the faculty member of our department. Our former H.O.D. Dr. Gurunath Nadgonde, a well-known sociologist, has written six books. He has done pioneering work which introduced sociological concepts and terminology in Marathi literature. He is the student of eminent social scientist Dr. Iravati Karve. Dr. M.D. Gaikwad was Head of Department till May 2019. At present Mr. Dinesh Patil is working as Head of Department. Miss Shivani Ghongade and Miss Shilpa Hirave are currently working as Assistant Professor (Contributory).
9 students of Department have qualified NET Exam while 14 students qualified SET exam. One of these students, Shilpa Hirave, has qualified SET exam at UG level. 12 students are working as Associate and Assistant Professor at various colleges. 3 students completed Ph.D. while 8 students are pursuing Ph.D. in different universities. 4 students have Ph.D. fellowships of SARTHI and BARTI, Govt. of Maharashtra. Priyanka Sadalkar is working as State Tax Inspector, Govt. of Maharashtra. Our 56 alumni are working in 15 different sectors of social life.
Mr. Dinesh Patil is running Janata Darbar - An Energetic Knowledge Movement, only activity of this kind in India, since last 9 years. As a part of this movement, he developed and implemented 45 activities successfully which played important role in versatile development of students. 255 research papers of students are presented and published in various research competitions and conferences. As the result of this activity, 34 students got placed in different companies/institutes in last 5 academic years. 7 research projects of Higher and Technical Education Ministry and Annasaheb Patil Economically Backward Development Corporation of Govt. of Maharashtra of worth Rs. 12,56,731 were completed. 9 research projects of Cultural and Higher and Technical Education Ministries of Govt. of Maharashtra are ongoing. Dinesh Patil is currently working as a member of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad Resource Material Publication Committee, Govt. of Maharashtra and Trustee of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad Research and Training Institute, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
